  • This is an advanced Futures Studies course where the theme may change every time the course is run.

In winter 2017 the course will consist of 

  1. Performing a horizon scanning excercise on regional futures including reviews on academic and non-academic sources
  2. Forming a futures table following PESTEC categories of the trends affecting regional development
  3. Facilitating a small group in a real-life scenario workshop including stakeholder participation
  4. Analysing the material of the workshop
  5. Writing individually a learning diary of the phases carried out.

A minimum of 3 credits are given from points 1,2 and 5 above. Everyone must participate in these phases. Participating in addition to either phase 3 or four gives you 4 credits. Performing all tasks above gives you 6 credits.

Grading is based on observing the student's individual performance and group activity skills. The learning diary is weighted by 50%, Horizon scanning and forming the futures table is weighted by 25%. Being a supportive group member and workshop facilitator is given the weight of 25%.

Timetable in 2017 and locations

Wednesday 8 Feb at 14-16: Introduction and work division for the horizon scanning (lecture hall 18).

Wednesday 1 March at 14-16: Organising the futures table for the client's comments (lh 08)

Friday 10 March at 10-13: Workshop facilitation training (place to be confermed)

Thursday 23rd March (whole day and evening): Workshop facilitation in real life and analysing results in the evening

Friday 24th (whole day): Helping the Professor to present the results for the audience

Tuesday 18th April: Deadline for uploading the learning diary to Moodle.
