Academic Writing and Speaking (ENGL2016) Autumn 2012
Course objectives
The objective of the course is to introduce the student to the conventions of academic writing and oral communication in various contexts, particularly academic presentations in English. The writing part of the course is intended to strengthen the student’s proficiency in researching a topic and applying the conventions of academic writing to produce a well-structured academic text. The presentation part of the course is intended to provide the students with skills for preparing and giving an oral presentation in an academic setting.
Course requirements and grading
During the course, students are required to
1. write a research paper (ca. 3,000 words) on a topic chosen by the student
2. complete other written assignments given during the course (4 in total)
3. give an oral
presentation (10 minutes) on the paper topic.
