The aim of the course is to familiarise students with synthesis of radiopharmaceuticals, the physics and chemical aspects of radioactive disintegration and in the use of radiopharmaceuticals in research and in preclinical and clinical studies. The lectures deal with aspects in synthesis of carbon-11, nitrogen-13, oxygen-15 and fluorine-18 –labelled radiopharmaceuticals. Also the use of radiometal chelation to macromolecules is dealt with. Furthermore, preclinical and clinical use and aspects in research with radiopharmaceuticals is presented and discussed. Visits to various laboratories of the Turku PET Centre are included in the course.
