Objectives

Students learn to take advantage of new possibilities of laser scanning (LiDAR) in order to interpret the evolution of the Finnish glacial landforms, glacigenic relief and especially glacial hydrological system. They will apply their previous GIS skills and learn basic field methods in geomorphological description and sedimentological study of glacial landforms. Students are able to discuss the processes and dynamics of the melting ice sheet. The students will gain experience in the different stages of the research procedure from the planning to the implementation and reporting of the study. Furthermore, they will learn critical attitude towards different research materials and methods. Finally, the students will gain capability to assess the usage of the soil and landforms from the viewpoints of human needs as well as protection and sustainable use of the environment. Students learn to collaborate and compile a group report, discuss critically scientific results and enhance their problem solving skills.
