The course introduces students to the structures, institutions and cultural patterns of Finnish society. It focuses on exploring phenomena of contemporary Finnish society, but also offers an overview of the historical processes that have shaped them. During the course, the students will get acquainted with basic sociological concepts and theoretical frameworks.

Contents

The course offers a sociological introduction to Finnish society and culture. Among the topics covered are neighbourhoods, working life, families, celebration, social movements, the body in Finnish culture and the Finnish welfare state.
