Suomen historian ja taidehistorian oppiaineiden yhdessä järjestämä kahden iltapäivän pituinen intensiiviseminaari tarjoaa näkökulmia kuvaan ja historiaan varhaiselta uudelta ajalta nykypäivään ulottuvalla aikaperspektiivillä. Kokoavina teemoina ovat: kuva historiallisen tiedon lähteenä; kuvien ja todellisuuden suhde; kuva ja esine. Esimerkkeinä toimivat kuvataide, valokuvat ja muut kuvalliset aineistot varhaiselta uudelta ajalta nykypäivään.

A training course for European Heritage Students 2017

Online course consists of assignments based on literature (topical research articles), discussion and practical work related to description and analysis of a born digital phenomenon and plan of how to document, preserve and potentially productizate it. The course touches upon questions of tangible and intangible elements of digital cultures dealing with phenomena such as digital games, mobile technologies, social media and the internet.

This is the general course area of the master's programme on European Heritage, Digital Media and the Information Society.

Introduction

This e-learning moodle-course is called „Heavy Metal & Heritage Tourism in the Social Media age“. It combines the three sections of Heavy Metal culture, cultural heritage tourism and social media. Within this course the students will get an overview of all three subjects and their connection together. The students will read a couple of relevant and recent articles and studies as well as basic literature. Based on reflective reading and other provided material, the students will do different tasks concerning every week’s main focus.

Beside critical reading, students will also learn about the usage of social media and web 2.0 tools for doing academic and collaborative work. To complete this e-learning course, students will do a small group-project. There they can incorporate their own ideas, creativity, knowledge and team-working abilities.

Basically everybody who wants to can take part in this course, but maybe it’s easier for students to have at least a little bit of knowledge in either Popular Culture, Heritage Studies or Social Media.

Learning outcomes:
* Student is familiar with concept of social media
* Student can use web-based social media tools for one’s own work
* Student is able to produce base material for digital cultural project
* Student gains ability to identify and utilize appropriately sources of information for a research project
Course contents: Course consists of on-line admissions about social media and its digital tools. Optionally, course consists of research and digital material production for a digital cultural project with an external, non-academic partner.
