This course focuses on China’s global economic outreach now and in the future. By drawing insights from the empirical Arctic case, the lectures focus on different types of practices that China currently advances in its urge to become a primary node of the global economy (e.g. company acquisitions, infrastructure investments, sanctions, panda diplomacy etc.). The scenario workshop sessions provide a chance to apply this understanding in a futures oriented setting, as the students build scenarios for China’s Arctic engagement up to 2035/2050 by using major International Relations (IR) theories as their backbones.
