The course will provide an introduction to evolution, evolutionary explanations of behaviour and evolutionary psychology.

The theory and mechanisms of evolution, the fundamentals of modern evolutionary psychology, and the application of evolutionary psychological thinking in various sub-disciplines in psychology will be discussed. The lectures will cover topics such as mechanisms of evolution and natural selection, sexual selection and mate choice, the evolution of social behaviour, language and cognition, Darwinian medicine and the use and misuse of evolutionary explanations in society and public discourse.
