Objectives

The course aims to provide an overview of the main issues related to European Union (EU) constitutionalism. An essential part of the course will be the analysis of the structure of the EU, with a focus on constitutionalism and integration. The symbolic and normative dimension of the EU will be taken into account along with its origins as an international organization that complies with international law. At the end of the course, students will be able to understand broadly the main features of European constitutionalism and their practical consequences on the ordinary life of European citizens. They will also acquire the analytical tools enabling them to analyze European integration from a critical perspective. This will necessarily include a critical assessment of the financial and economic crisis, the refugee crisis, the rule of law challenges in Hungary and Poland and Brexit. Thus, students oral and written skills will be developed through participation in the discussion, written assignments and final essay.
