Subject specific competence

After the course the student can describe the operation principle of solar cells. They can name what type of key materials are needed in different solar technologies and describe key loss mechanisms related to solar energy production. They can evaluate the amount of solar irradiation available for the solar cells in a given geographical location taking into account daily and seasonal variation. Students can design and size a solar cell system for different use. Furthermore, they can explain the main economical and sustainability aspects related to solar energy.

Transferable skills

Students practice working in small groups developing their collaboration skills. Students can describe and justify the topic of a scientific project and present the results of the project in writing. They can bring together small assignments into a comprehensive report and draw main conclusions. Students also develop their presentation skills.
