Objectives

The course is aimed at elucidating the role of synthetic and mechanistic chemistry of biomolecules and biopolymers, their modified analogs and conjugates as research tool for cell biology and as a chemical basis of understanding of biological phenomena at the level of individual bond making and breaking processes and interatomic interactions. Main attention is paid to chemistry and applications of nucleic acids and peptides.

Learning outcomes:
Students know the structure, reactivity and biological role of oligonucleotides, peptides, and the synthetic chemistry related to these biopolymers (and to their conjugates), and how these biopolymers (or oligomers) may be applied as drugs/diagnostics and as research tools in cell biology.
