Objectives

After the course the student will have understanding on brain structure and function, communication between nerve cells, neurotransmitter systems and their use as drug targets to treat neuropsychiatric disorders.

The student is able to explain the mechanisms of action and their relevance to the pathophysiology of the diseases and their symptoms of currently used medications and emerging targets of drug development. They are able to describe the therapeutic use of drug groups incl. indications, effects and adverse effects, and compare the advantages and disadvantages of the drugs used in the same indications.
