Objectives
Students become familiar with the ethnographic and the use of ethnographic data in conducting research and writing a thesis. Students learn how to approach and get engaged in social situations for research purposes; they learn how to assess and interpret observed information and interview and conversation data from the ethnographic point of view.
This course complements students’ research methods skills, paying special attention to East Asian contexts and participants’ own topics and academic interests. The course should be taken during the second semester of the programme before commencing thesis research.
