Objectives

Subject specific competence
After this course students are familiar with and can apply and evaluate typical material selection strategies which highlight the environmental impacts of materials throughout their life cycle. They understand why systematic sustainability management is of crucial importance in industry and know examples of tools used in this work. Furthermore, the students are able to give examples about policy measures, industry's voluntary commitments and circular models which contribute to a more sustainable future.

Transferable skills
The project work part of this course is carried out in small groups. During the project students develop their collaboration skills and project management skills (scheduling, division of work between the group members, searching and analyzing material, producing deliverables etc.). As the weekly exercises include also assignments such as debates after the course the students have increased abilities to present their views and to justify their views with science based evidence and to respect the viewpoints of others.
