Objectives

Upon the completion of this course, students will have entry level competence in
* principles of scientific thinking
* experimental design and inference in science
* understanding the concepts of validity and reliability
* critical appraisal of scientific evidence
* systematic review of scientific evidence
* evidence-based clinical practice

After the course, the students can evaluate the quality of scientific evidence as a part of their clinical decision making. They also understand the importance of communication between clinicians and researchers, and the need for lifelong learning and self-direction.

These learning outcomes belong to the following main categories in “Learning outcomes of the graduate speech and language therapist”: 1. Knowledge, information processing and critical thinking, 2. Research and developing the field, 5. Assessment, gathering of clinical information and drawing conclusions from it, 7. Social Impact, 8. Expertise and maintaining one’s professional competence and 9. Self-Management.
