Objectives
After this course, the students will understand the phenomenon of the culture wars in recent U.S. history, both as a set of cultural conflicts and as an interpretative lens to political fracture. They will be able to critically evaluate the culture wars as a component of political activity and appraise the rhetorical strategies used to foment and maintain them. They will learn to identify the classic topical frontiers of the culture wars and the means by which new phenomena are being incorporated or centralized within them.
