Objectives

The course offers problem-based learning. The course includes 6 sessions and 2 seminars. The main objective of the session part is to acquire a basic understanding of hate speech, defamation, platform liability, and content moderation. The main objective of the seminars is to deepen the understanding of the course topic.

After completing the session part, the student should acquire technical and individual working skills, as well as master the following four levels of competence:
• knowledge,
• understanding,
• analyzing,
• application to practice

By the end of the session part, the student should acquire the following course-specific skills:
• understand both provider- and user-centric approaches
• interpret processes and phenomena analyzed in the course
• recognize and critically analyze multiple legal and socio-legal aspects concerning commenting and moderation as well as apply the knowledge in practice
• identify the relevant cases issued by international courts
• master the basic international legal literature on the topics covered in the course, jurisprudence, and normative documents; and be able to apply them in written argumentation.

Additionally, by participating in the sessions, the student should acquire the following generic skills:
• learn to compose summaries and concise study aids from course materials and lectures
• learn to present arguments in writing
By participating in the seminars, the student should acquire the following generic skills:
• learn how to present arguments visually and orally
• learn feedback-giving and discussion skills
