Learning outcomes
After this course students have a deeper knowledge of the terminology used in medical texts and are able to recognize and understand the most common terms. Furthermore, they are aware of how medical affixes combine to form meaning and have developed strategies for reading. In addition, students have learned digital strategies to facilitate their dental studies in English.
Content
Topics covered on the course are:
- introduction to medical terminology and the influence of Greek and Latin;
- how basic dental terminology is formed;
- reading skills based on texts from medical studies;
- word-building strategies e.g. affixes, combining forms, prefixes, suffixes;
- important dental terms, for example, tooth surfaces, internal and external structure of teeth, skull and jaw terminology, bones, muscles.
