Objectives
The student knows the standard sound system of English and its description with the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) as well as the basics of English word stress, speech rhythm and intonation. The student knows how to compare sound systems and is familiar with basic phonetic and phonological concepts. The student can discuss factors affecting second language pronunciation.
