Objectives
This course is an introduction to the fundamental concepts of Intercultural Communication (ICC), a 21st-century skill that helps students learn from and work with people from other cultures in different contexts. This course is centred on discussions of topics from ICC literature and will also draw from students' own academic fields of study and their experiences in Finland and abroad.
On completion of KIEN2033, students will be better equipped to:
-understand the complexity of culture and its influence on language, communication, and interpersonal relationships
-use special vocabulary related to the field of ICC
-discuss major themes of research in the field of ICC
-relate the issues presented in the course to their own life experiences
-lead a short discussion on an ICC topic
