During this course, we will introduce the basics of supramolecular chemistry and molecular recognition while becoming familiar with their application in functional materials and technologies, with a special focus on supramolecular energy materials. In particular, we will learn about different noncovalent interactions, (supra)molecular design, and methods, applying knowledge from materials and physical chemistry perspectives. This will be complemented with perspectives on photosynthesis as an inspiration for solar energy conversion and the role of supramolecular materials in modern energy technologies, as well as smart nanotechnologies. Finally, we will take a critical approach in the assessment of strategies for the development of supramolecular materials and related technologies through case studies and seminars.
