Objectives

Subject-specific competence
After this course, the students will recognize the differences between modelling approaches and scales and will become aware of alternative theoretical approaches, depending on the materials' properties of interest, such as, e.g., transport, mechanical, or thermal properties. The students will also be able to summarize the approximations and simplifications used depending on the modelling approach and will be aware of their consequences and limitations. They will be able to plan and perform realistic computer simulations for studying material properties of both soft and solid materials.

Transferable skills
After completing the course, the students will acquire hands-on experience working in teams while enhancing their IT proficiency through computer simulations and data visualization. Additionally, they will cultivate critical thinking, self-learning, data analysis, problem-solving, and scientific writing skills. Peer evaluation will also provide them with valuable experience in giving and receiving constructive feedback.
