Objectives

The participants can:
a) Reflect on the concept of ‘transitional justice’ as a socio-legal phenomenon;
b) Identify the democratic challenges and inequalities posed by previous armed conflicts or oppression and think about how society can overcome such challenges;
c) Recognise several transitional justice initiatives, processes and discussions in different geographical and historical settings;
d) Compare different transitional justice processes and frameworks;
e) Consider the differences between transitional justice processes in post-conflict societies and democratic societies;
f) Reflect on the complexity of questions surrounding legal and moral responsibility, victimhood and remedies in transitional justice settings;
g) Critically ponder upon how socio-legal notions of victimhood are created and how rights of victims are taken into consideration.
