Objectives
In this course, students are recruited and trained to work as conference assistants at the 28th Biennial Conference of the Nordic Association for American Studies (NAAS) https://sites.utu.fi/naas2025/ that takes place on June 4-6, 2025 at the University of Turku. Over the duration of the course, students will acquire practical skills in event coordination, logistics, customer service, and communication, preparing them for the fast-paced environment of large-scale conferences. Students will gain proficiency in tasks such as managing schedules, assisting speakers and participants, setting up venues, and providing on-site support. In addition, students will immerse themselves into the field of American Studies. They will explore its transdisciplinary nature, key research themes, and methodologies as well as have the opportunity to network with influential scholars working in the field. By the end of the course, students will have gained practical skills and experience needed to contribute to successful conferences, having developed critical organizational and interpersonal skills while also gaining deeper knowledge about the state of the art research conducted in the field of American Studies.
