Objectives
In this course, students practice writing academic English and cover a variety of writing skills. The course will provide tools for continuous language learning, information retrieval, and facilitate skills for scientific writing. Students use academic texts and their own writing as the basis for analysis. Peer and teacher review provides constructive feedback for reflection and development of their academic writing.
On completion of KIEN2028 Developing Academic Writing, students will be better equipped to:
- reflect on writing conventions for different audiences
- demonstrate effective paraphrasing and use of quotations
- engage critically with cultural conventions in academic writing
- produce paragraphs and sentences to create coherent writing
- engage with peers to describe and critically discuss writing conventions
- critically assess their own and other texts
- evaluate and use online tools for enhancing ethical academic writing
- develop awareness of the self as a writer and how to apply writing strategies
- create an academic paper using appropriate style and referencing
- reflect on writing and learning strategies
