Objectives

After the course, the student is familiar with functional, evolutionary and applied perspectives of plant ecology. Throughout the course, the student comes to understand how phenomena at the functional and physiological level (i.e. how plants sense their neighbors, what factors limit plant growth) affects their ecological interactions, geographical distributions, adaptation and evolution and vice versa. Student will also understand how ecological and evolutionary principles can be applied to solve problems in plant conservation, non-indigenous species management and agroecosystems. Through detailed reading of original research articles and the following discussion in journal clubs, the student will improve their critical thinking and knowledge of the scientific process.
