EAST0211 Korean Literature Translation Workshop

Course Contents and Learning Outcome:

This hands-on, collaborative workshop offers a unique gateway to East Asian storytelling, utilizing English-language source texts to bridge the gap toward a final Finnish-language translation. Students will work in small, dynamic groups of 3–4 to simulate a real-world editorial environment. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
• Demonstrate a deepened knowledge of Korean literary themes and history.
• Hone practical translation skills and creative problem-solving.
• Gain valuable teamwork experience through collaborative creative writing.
• Navigate the nuances of tone, cultural context, and linguistic flair to produce a polished, collective Finnish rendition.

Study Method:

18 hours on-campus class (2 classes are special lectures: online and on-campus) and 80% of attendance is obligatory

This is a collaborative workshop. The course materials include English-language source texts and supporting cultural materials.

On the first day of the course, you will receive a welcome message from the teacher, including a link to the course webpage. An additional 1 credit can be earned by completing an assignment for this course.
