The course introduces key concepts and perspectives related to social inequality, social stratification, intergenerational inequality, demographic change, and the welfare state. It provides students with a foundation for understanding how social and economic resources are distributed across individuals, families, and generations, and how welfare-state institutions and policies may influence these processes. The course also develops students’ understanding of causation and explanation in social science, drawing on both sociological and methodological perspectives.
