Objectives

After the course, students will be able to explain how different anthropogenic environmental stressors (e.g. climate change, eutrophication, environmental toxins and habitat degradation) influence the functions of animals and if the animals can tolerate or adapt to the stressors. As the course will be organized partly as a Journal Club, students will obtain the most recent knowledge in environmental and evolutionary physiology. The course will thus also improve the discussion skills and scientific thinking of students since the articles will be presented by students and their strength and limits discussed during the course, with emphasis given to the way environmental problems are studied and presented in a scientific manner. In addition, the students will obtain skills needed for conducting and writing thesis and manuscripts. During the course, students will design and conduct experiments to study the effects of environmental stressors. They will thus gain problem solving skills and organization skills, as well as scientific writing skills when reporting the results of their experiments.
