After passing the course the student is aware of the concept of peer reviewed science, and the structure of scientific publications. Student is able to attend in scientific seminars, participate in scientific discussion and write reports about seminar presentations. Student can search for and read scientific literature, use referencing tools and is able to prepare and give a scientific seminar presentation. Student gets practice in presentation skills, interaction and communication skills, planning and organization as well as in critical scientific thinking.

Objectives
The course will introduce students to the different seminar series held on the campus. After each seminar lecture the student will write a summary/abstract in the learning journal, focusing on the main message of the presentation. Upon completion of the course, the student is able to:
- Understand scientific presentation and communication in comprehensive way.
- Extract key scientific messages from the presentations and produce condensed summaries.
- Recall information and utilize note-taking during the presentation

Opiskelija tuntee tutkimusprosessin yleiset periaatteet, hänellä on tietoa sekä kvantitatiivisista että kvalitatiivisista tutkimusmenetelmistä ja hän pystyy keskustelemaan niistä. Opintojakson kestävän kehityksen tavoitteisiin kuuluu tutkimuseettisten periaatteiden tuntemus.
Opiskelija hallitsee keskeiset tilastolliset menetelmät ja tuntee erilaisia vieraan kielen oppimisen tutkimuksen aineistonkeruumenetelmiä.
Opiskelija on perehtynyt tiedonhakuun.
Opiskelija on tutustunut pro gradu -tutkielman laadinnan periaatteisiin ja pystyy käyttämään sopivia menetelmiä omassa tutkielmassaan. Opiskelijalla on valmiudet suunnitella kielen oppimisen tutkimuksen alueelle sijoittuva pro gradu -tutkielman laajuinen itsenäinen tutkimus ohjaajan kanssa keskustellen.

After the completion of the course the student is able to select suitable and adequate information security solutions to suit the security needs of a particular application. The student knows and is able to administer different ways and methods for protecting and managing different kind of digital material and rights (DRM). After the completion the student is able to specify a system for electronic identification (biometrics) taking into account both the identification accuracy and the proper and secure management and transportation of the identification data (biometric). The student is also able to recognize information security risks caused by subsystems and is able to prevent their occurrences by means of careful information security design of the system.
The course strengthens the following working life skills: creativity, problem solving skills, information and communication technology skills, networking skills and communication skills.
