Objectives
The course will broaden and deepen the student’s understanding of 1) the role of Asia in the world economy, 2) the geography of trade and global production networks, and 3) how trade policies affect internationally operating firms in Asian economies. The student learns to analyze foreign trade and to explore Asian countries as business environments by reflecting on the key concepts on trade, global value chains, regional integration, and labour issues. On successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- understand foreign trade at a country and global level,
- identify the importance of trade and global value chains on Asian economies’ development paths,
- recognize challenges faced by internationally operating firms in Asian countries,
- reflect key concepts and theories to explain these developments, and use the theories to investigate the challenges and possible solutions for sustainable development,
- communicate study outcomes in written form.

Objectives
This course aims to explore the theories and practices of labor market institutions and development. How do labor regulations affect welfare in developing countries? It discusses competing theoretical frameworks and policy interventions related to decent working conditions, productivity and employment determination. Examples of cases include labor unions, legislation on minimum wages and employment protection, unemployment insurance and active labor market policies in developing countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Major emphasis is given to the enforcement of labor regulations.

This course will provide a framework for thinking about climate change and its consequences for international trade. The course aims to promote a better understanding of how we can better reconcile the competing objectives of international/global trade, measures on adaptation and mitigation of climate change, and poverty alleviation, eventually progressing SDG #13 goals in the Global South.
We will explore how climate change affects the global and regional trade policy in the Global South, which, depending on the different scenarios presented during the exercises, may present both new opportunities and threats through measures and implementation by multi-sectors stakeholders. Specific sector- and country-context case studies and exercises on hypothetical scenarios will be utilized to better understand how contemporary trade policies may influence climate adaptation and mitigation in the Global South.

Opiskelija oppii muodostamaan tapahtumia ja laskea näiden todennäköisyyksiä soveltamalla todennäköisyyslaskennan laskusääntöjä. Tämän lisäksi opiskelija oppii muodostamaan erilaisista tapahtumista satunnaismuuttujia, tunnistamaan tunnetuimpia parametrisiä todennäköisyysjakaumia, käsittelemään satunnaismuuttujien todennäköisyysjakaumia sekä laskemaan näiden tunnuslukuja.

Tavoitteet
Opintojakson suoritettuaan opiskelija ymmärtää epätäydellisen kilpailun vaikutukset yritysten käyttäytymiseen ja markkinoiden toimintaan. Hän tuntee erilaisia strategioita, joilla yritykset voivat hankkia markkinavoimaa (kuten hintadiskriminointi, tuotedifferointi, kolluusio, yrityskaupat). Opiskelija tuntee kielletyt kilpailunrajoitukset ja tietää, miten julkinen valta pyrkii kilpailulainsäädännön avulla turvaamaan markkinoiden kilpailullisuuden. Hän osaa myös etsiä itsenäisesti tietoa kilpailuoikeudellisista tapauksista sekä valmistella ja pitää aiheesta suullisen esityksen ryhmässä toimien, mitkä ovat tärkeitä taitoja monissa alan asiantuntijatehtävissä esimerkiksi yrityksissä, konsulttitoimistoissa ja kilpailuviranomaisissa.

Opiskelija ymmärtää toimitusketjujen johtamisen keskeiset osa-alueet ja peruskäsitteet, sekä yrityksen toimitusketjuprosessien vaikutuksen yrityksen muihin toimintoihin, kannattavuuteen ja kilpailukykyyn.
Sisältö
Kurssilla käsiteltäviä aiheita ovat mm. toimitusketjun hallinta ja strategia, prosessit ja suorituskyky, varasto-ohjaus, hankintatoimi, kuljetukset sekä logistiikkapalvelut.
