Subject specific competence
After the course the student can describe the operation principles of solar cells. They can name what type of key materials are needed in different solar technologies and describe key loss mechanisms related to solar energy production. They can evaluate the amount of solar irradiation available for the solar cells in a given geographical location, including daily and seasonal variation. Students can design and size a solar energy system, considering the needs of its owner. Furthermore, they can explain the main economical and sustainability aspects related to solar energy.
Transferable skills
Students work in small groups, developing their collaboration and project management skills. Students learn to choose a suitable topic for a scientific project and to evaluate the feasibility of their project plans. They can bring together small assignments into a comprehensive report and draw main conclusions. Students also develop their presentation skills.
