This course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the historical, political, economic, and social developments on the Korean Peninsula. Inter-Korean relations are a major issue in East Asian and international politics, encompassing the history of the Cold War, division, cooperation, and conflict.
However, due to the complex political context and historical background, beginners often find it difficult to approach. Therefore, this course uses concrete case studies to help students clearly grasp the key issues in inter-Korean relations. It will also analyse recent shifts in cooperation and conflict between the two Koreas while shedding light on their relations with the international community. Through this, students will develop a deeper understanding of inter-Korean relations within the framework of modern Korean history and global affairs.

Objectives
This online course will enable students to understand and analyse Taiwan, one of the most complex and contentious places in East Asia. By the end of the course, students will be familiar with the key aspects of contemporary Taiwanese society and politics, including Taiwan’s national identity debates, its contested relationship with the Chinese mainland, and its socio-cultural mix of Indigenous, Chinese, Western, and Japanese influences. By introducing the main dynamics of Taiwan’s socio-political situation, this course provides a valuable complement to other courses on China and the East Asian region.
