The main objective of the course is to give the doctoral students a multifaceted understanding of qualitative research methods and how they are applied in contemporary studies. The course also intends to increase the students’ abilities to critically assess different qualitative approaches and their applicability to different types of research problems and designs.

The course addresses a variety of themes starting from the social scientific foundations of qualitative research, different types of qualitative research and how they are applied. The latter includes both not only conducting and reporting of research, but also how these are assessed in publication processes.
