Objectives
After participating in the study day and completing the coursework assignments, the student will be able to recognize prominent themes in Japanese popular music and will know how these phenomena have been addressed in recent academic scholarship. Students will attain a deeper understanding of recent phenomena, key concepts and scholarship of Japanese popular music. They will also be able to make comparisons and recognize differences between popular music – as well as popular music scholarship – in Japan and the Euro-American sphere.
