The course introduces some key aspects of the development of Finnish culture and society from prehistoric to modern times. The students will learn about the formation of the country, its languages, the nation as an idea, and the development of Finnish identity and culture in the 20th century. The course elaborates the theories of identity, memory and nation connecting them to the historical processes and research materials. To complete the course the student needs to participate in the lectures and turn in the assignments.
