The content and the learning outcomes
The series of lectures introduces the Finnish way of life, including everyday sociality, values, experiences, perceptions, and beliefs. The course discusses both historical development and the phenomena of contemporary Finland, both from the perspectives of the majority population and various minorities. The course reflects on ethnic, cultural, and social elements that have separated and united communities and groups in different times. The lectures also discuss local and regional phenomena, as well as cultural diversity and interaction. Special characteristics that have developed over a long period include the narratives, perceptions and images that have built and defined modern Finnishness.
