Objectives
After the course, students have a broad understanding on scientific thinking related to statistical and causal inference. In practice, they know what statistical and causal inference means in quantitative sociology and how they can be implemented in empirical social science research. Students also understand the pros and cons of some main methods used to detect causality.

The aim of the course is to deepen students' understanding of modern empirical research in health economics and medicine based on experimental and quasi-experimental research designs. The course provides the students with necessary knowledge for understanding empirical research in health economics and for designing own research proposal in a health-related topic using quasi-experimental research designs. In addition, the students learn to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of research articles, critical skills for economic evaluation in healthcare and empirical research in health economics.

The course deepens the knowledge on the chemical properties of different metals and their compounds. After the course, the students understand typical chemical properties (oxidation states, coordination numbers etc.) related to the metallic elements and are able to judge such properties using the periodic table of the elements.
